2013 Morgan Prize

So the AMS Prizes for 2013 were announced a couple days ago.

Among them, the Frank and Brennie Morgan Prize for Outstanding Research in Mathematics by an Undergraduate Student went to Fan Wei, from MIT, who “authored or co-authored five papers in fields as diverse as number theory, combinatorics, statistics, and tropical geometry  […]“.

I could find three papers of her on the arXiv: here, there, and there.  She had already won the 2012 Shafer Prize for Undergaduate Women in Mathematics.

And finally, one can notice that she, just like most previous winners, also had attended several REU programs over the years. So, the US do indeed have something that works well on this particular topic of undergraduate mathematicians. Will Europe ever wake up ? No idea…
